Ben Gamla Students Create a Peace Garden

Palm Beach County, FL – Students at Ben Gamla, a Hebrew-language charter school, have been working on a Peace Garden project.  Initiated by a grandparent volunteer, the project coincides with Tu B’shvat – Birthday of the Tress – which is similar to Arbor Day.   The grandparent secured a Community Partner, Orchard Supply & Hardware, who partnered with Ben Gamla to make the garden a reality.

“Creating the Peace Garden was an amazingly cooperative and inter-disciplinary effort of all our K-5 students,” explains Elanit Weizman, Principal. “They painted pavers as their art station during our Field Day and have been painting, creating and decorating other components of the garden out of recycled or re-purposed materials during art class the past several weeks. Upper grades went out to the garden and measured area and perimeter during math, researched plant options during science class, plotted or designed the garden layout on computers, and every grade level planted during Hebrew on Tu B’shvat.”

The students, parents, teachers and stakeholders will attend the garden dedication ceremony on March 9th.   Ben Gamla Charter School is located at 8600 Jog Road in Boynton Beach.
