Hollywood Academy of Arts and Science Students Shine in Art Competition

Hollywood, Fla. (Nov. 2, 2017) – Hollywood Academy of Arts and Science (HAAS) shined in the Art in the Capitol Competition, with four students advancing through two stages to win regional and one winning 1st place for the state of Florida. The statewide visual arts competition is a result of legislation signed in 2016 by Governor Rick Scott. Each school district is required to hold an art competition for all students grades six through eight attending public, private or homeschool. Artwork submissions are considered through three stages:

Stage 1 – Four works of art per art teacher are submitted during this stage. Artwork is first judged at the school level and the winning four pieces go on to the Broward County School Board to be judged along with all the other Broward County Schools competition pieces.

Stage 2 – Thirty-eight works of art are then selected by the Broward County School Board as their winning Broward County pieces and go on to exhibition and an award ceremony at Young At Art Museum in Davie, Florida. All four of HAAS entries won at the Broward County level.

Stage 3 – Selected Broward regional winners are then judged on a State level with categories for: Best of Show going to Tallahassee to exhibit at the state Capitol, and first place, second place and third place on exhibit at Young At Art Museum.

Winners were announced at the Young At Art Museum’s exhibition during the Art In The Capitol exhibition reception and award ceremony in conjunction with the Palindrome Park installation by artist Francesco Lo Castro on Oct. 26 with the show going on through November.

All four art pieces submitted on behalf of HAAS students were selected as part of the 38 regional winners of stage two. Winners are:
