Grants from Charter School Associates Advance STEAM Initiatives

For the 2018-19 school year, Charter School Associates offered 12 grants to teachers to implement Nintendo’s Labo system in their into their classrooms to support the development of creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving.

Teachers were provided kits that served as a fun way for students to explore basic STEAM concepts (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) while being entertained and building a fundamental understanding of the technology behind them. With the kits, students worked together to use the View Sonic interactive board, build a remote fishing rod and remote-control car, and more.

“Using the Nintendo LABO as an end-of-class activity, students felt engaged while practice rules to work in groups. These activities help my students to better collaborate as well as to find solutions by themselves,” said Mrs. Mabel Gonzalez, Middle School Math Teacher at Everglades Preparatory Academy.

Schools that participated were Summerville Advantage Academy, Valrico Lake Advantage Academy, Independence Academy, The Charter School at Waterstone, Hillsborough Academy of Math and Science, West Broward Academy and Everglades Preparatory Academy!
