Community Leaders, Students, Teachers, and Parents Come Together for School Choice

National School Choice Week 2023 celebrations held across Florida last week were a spectacular success! The Florida Charter School Alliance (FCSA)  and our member schools — from Key West to Tallahassee — hosted many dynamic events that included a live steam talent show to the James Madison Institute dinner. Here are a few highlights:

  • FCSA hosted a reception with new Miami Dade County Public School board member Robert J. Alonso. School leaders from throughout South Florida attended the intimate gathering where Alonso spoke about his vision for education and support of a parent’s right to choose the best school for their child.

  • Dr. Dogan Tozoglu, Executive Director, River City Science Academy charter schools attended an Education Roundtablehosted by U.S. Senator Rick Scott.

  • SLAM! Charter Schools across four states hosted a NSCW talent extravaganza which streamed live for all to see. Besides live performances, the showcase included video submissions from kindergartners through seniors across SLAM’s ten campuses. Students used music, dance, rap, and poetry to express why they chose to attend SLAM! Special guest included Andrew Campanella, President and CEO of the National School Choice Awareness Foundation.

  • FCSA was a sponsor of the James Madison Institute Dinner with special guest, Betsy DeVos. Mrs. Anita Whitby-Davis (pictured with DeVos) represented FCSA at the event. Whitby-Davis is a charter school parent and CEO of Blautism Inc., a nonprofit organization designed to address the resources, challenges, advocacy, literacy, and education of children on the Autism spectrum.
