TALLAHASSEE, FL — In celebration of National School Choice Week 2026 (January 25-31, 2026), the Florida Charter School Alliance (FCSA) proudly recognizes Florida’s position as a national leader in parental choice, offering families a wide range of high-quality K–12 public education options designed to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Florida’s charter schools — a vital component of the state’s public education system for 29 years — offer a broad and dynamic range of educational programs, serving both urban and rural communities. Some of those programs include exceptional student education, dropout prevention, classical education models, ESE-focused, career-readiness, Science/STEM, rigorous college-preparator, performing and visual arts, language immersion, Montessori models, and academies serving high-need areas. While each school is unique, all charter schools share a common mission: a steadfast commitment to educational excellence and to serving the students and communities that rely on them. Data from the Florida Department of Education shows that Florida’s charter schools are performing academically — earning an overall “A” grade on the state’s 2024–25 assessment, a powerful testament to their continued excellence in student achievement and academic performance achieved through targeted data analysis, innovative practices, predictive insights, and a relentless focus on supporting all learners.
“Florida’s commitment to parental choice ensures that families—regardless of zip code—have access to innovative, high-quality public education options,” said Lynn Norman-Teck, Executive Director of the Florida Charter School Alliance and a charter school parent. “National School Choice Week is an opportunity to celebrate the educators, lawmakers, businesses, families, and communities who are working together to expand opportunity for all students, embrace quality charter schools, and raise the bar for public education.”
As a member-driven organization, the FCSA is dedicated to advancing legislative policies and fostering a supportive environment for charter schools across the state. FCSA advocates on behalf of students and charter schools statewide, positively impacting more than 407,000 students enrolled in 734 public charter schools throughout Florida. We are also committed to strengthening charter/authorizer relations through the District/Charter Collaborative — a grant-funding program that unites visionary leaders from both charter schools and district-run schools, fostering meaningful dialogue on relevant and transformative issues. Supported by a grant from the Florida Department of Education, the Collaborative has cultivated a dynamic network of public education leaders who exchange insights on challenges, innovative solutions, and best practices.
Today, charter schools make up 8.1% of public schools nationwide and educate 3.7 million students, two-thirds of whom are from low-income, Black, or Latino communities. In Florida, an estimated 14% of public school students attend a public charter school — an increase of more than 20% in the last five years. As Florida continues to lead the nation in parental choice, the Florida Charter School Alliance remains committed to ensuring charter schools thrive as a vital part of the public education system—empowering families and expanding opportunity for every student.
