April 4, 2017 – Tallahassee, FL – This morning, Ralph Arza and FCSA consultant Mark Warren attended a HB 7101 workshop led by the bill’s sponsor, Representative Bob Cortes. Several school district representatives were also participated. The Florida Charter School Alliance was the only state association at this critical meeting fighting for you and your students.
“We expressed our support for HB 7101 and thanked Representative Cortes for his leadership,” explains Ralph Arza, FCSA’s Director of Governmental Affairs. “We did, however, raise concerns about language that would require the academic performance of a student attending a SIR assessed school be used in calculating the home school accountability grade.”
HB 7101 supports existing charter schools and is a step in the right direction. The Senate version is SB 1362 (Senator Broxson). We urge all charter school leaders and stakeholders to review HB 7101 and contact FCSA with any concerns or questions.
