Building Hope Awarded $1.75 Million

September 30, 2016 – Building Hope has been selected by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institution Fund (CDFI) to receive a $1.75 million award to increase lending to charter schools. This is the second grant awarded to Building Hope by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institution Fund.

The U.S. Treasury Program invests and builds the capacity of community lenders, such as Building Hope, empowering them to contribute to the revitalization of communities.
The award will help Building Hope meet the demand of charter schools in economically distressed communities that are seeking affordable loans. Since 2003, Building Hope has invested over $200 million in 200 charter school projects serving more than 70,000 students, more than half of whom live in under-served communities.
A total of 457 applicants requested funding through this CDFI competitive awards program. Building Hope, one of 158 organizations selected to participate, provides the following services to highly qualified charter schools:
  • Facilities financing at below-market rates,
  • Charter school facility development,
  • Incubator space for new and expanding school, and
  • Low-cost back-office business support.
