2016 Legislative Session ends with passage of education bill

Florida – March 11, 2016 – The 2016 Florida Legislative Session ended today.  FCSA is working on a thorough analysis of all education bills that passed, and how they will impact our member schools and the students they serve.  In the meantime, here is a short summary of what happened today.

Education Bill Passes and is headed to the Governor

For several weeks leading up to today’s vote, a wide-ranging education bill (HB 7029) that included added accountability measures for charter schools, open enrollment opportunities for students statewide, and changes to the capital funding formula for district-run and charter schools – directing funding to charter schools that mostly serve impoverished students or those who have disabilities – went back and forth from the Senate and House. Today, the final version of the bill was adopted.

“This is a great victory for charter school students and their parents,” said Lynn Norman-Teck, FCSA Executive Director and charter school parent.

“We thank the House and Senate for their hard work in developing and passing good school choice legislation,” said Ralph Arza, Director of Governmental Affairs.
