US Dept of Education issues IDEA Guidance for Virtual Schools

August 31, 2016 – TheU.S. Department of Education recently issued a Dear Colleague Letter to clarify the requirements in Part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that apply to public virtual schools.

The Center for Online Learning and Students with Disabilities studied how online learning can be made more accessible — investigating approaches that address variations in student learning styles within the range of online learning options and identified promising practices for K-12 children with disabilities. This letter clarifies the critical requirements in Part B of IDEA that apply to virtual schools and the students with disabilities they serve.
