Hillsborough County – 08/21/17 – A recent poll of registered voters in Hillsborough County shows that more than 82% of respondents support a parent’s right to choose the best educational environment for their child. This response is similar to a 2016 statewide poll where 87% of Florida residents believe parents are best qualified to choose the best educational environment for their child.
Other key findings of the Hillsborough County poll include:
- 51% of respondents expressed very favorable or somewhat favorable opinions about non-profit charter schools.
- 45% expressed very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion when asked about Hillsborough Public Schools.
- 73% of respondents agree that public school choice allows all parents, regardless of their financial ability, to have more educational options.
Since 1996, Florida’s public charter schools have been an integral part of the state’s K-12 system of public education. Today, more than 270,000 students in Florida are enrolled in a public charter school. Parental demand for quality education options has driven charter school growth.
Conducted by National Victory Strategies of Boynton Beach by telephone with live professional interviewers, the poll reached more than 300 registered voters in Hillsborough County from July 20 to 22, 2017. Interview selection was random from within a predetermined group of likely primary election voters in Hillsborough County. Samples were taken evenly throughout Hillsborough., Florida, groups were structured to correlate with the demographic breakdown of the area while also taking voter habits into account.
