September 29, 2016 – U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. King, Jr., announced today that Somerset Arts Conservatory — a public charter school in Broward County — has been named a 2016 . Somerset Arts Conservatory is among just 4 Florida schools — and 279 public and 50 private schools — receiving this honor. Located in Pembroke Pines, Somerset Arts Conservatory is part of the high quality Somerset Academy network of schools operating campuses throughout Florida since 1997. The campus in Pembroke Pines is home to Somerset Academy K-12, and the Arts Conservatory.
Schools are nominated for the National Blue Ribbon award by the state Department of Education, and then complete a comprehensive application about school practices. Schools may apply for status as Exemplary High Performing—among the top schools in a state—or Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing—schools making the fastest progress in the their state in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
