Shelter from the storm at SLAM Tampa

September 15, 2017 – During and after Hurricane Irma, the SLAM  Tampa campus became a home away from home for the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Department. Briefing sessions were held in the school’s cafeteria and department vehicles were kept in the school’s covered parking area.

“We were happy to offer deputies a safe place to work and to store their equipment,” says Principal Jim Griffin. “It was a great opportunity to serve those who serve all.”

SLAM Tampa, like hundreds of charter schools across the state, has a great relationship with their community — from parents to first responders.  While school choice critics continue to attack charter schools, our member schools continue to help raise student achievement, and help neighbors in need.
