Only a few districts will share voter-approved tax dollars with charter schools

November 7, 2918 – The Florida Charter School Alliance is the only charter advocacy organization in the state that continually fights, and speaks up, for charter school students, parents, and teachers. Whether at in Tallahassee, at district meetings, or on the pages of your local paper, the Alliance is front and center of issues that are important to our membership.

A good example of that is the tax referendums that were on last week’s ballot in various counties. We worked with districts and member schools around the state to address this issue prior to the vote, and continue to advocate for the sharing of those tax dollars. Last week, Ralph Arza met with Superintendent Eakins. The good news is  that Hillsborough will share funds with charter schools that meet certain facilities guidelines. We also verified that Lake will share funds with charter schools. We are currently developing a strategic plan of options — including a legislative fix and legal action — to address the exclusion of charter students in other districts, and will be meeting with member schools in those areas in the coming weeks.  The FCSA team is asking member schools located in counties that recently passed a tax referendum for schools to contact us.  We want your help developing next steps.
