Hillsborough Charter School Principal Talks Success, Student Achievement

Sunday conversation: Winthrop Charter School Principal Terry Johnson

Tampa Bay Times, June 17, 2016 – Charter Schools USA, based in Fort Lauderdale, is becoming an ever greater presence in Hillsborough County. Arguably its most successful school locally is Winthrop, a K-8 school in Riverview with 1,300 students and a waiting list of close to 2,000 more.

The father of two is a product of public schools in Virginia and has worked for private schools as well. Johnson recently sat down with Tampa Bay Times staff writer Marlene Sokol to discuss the success of his school and the charter school movement’s impact on education.
