Big Week for Education Funding

June 5, 2017 – Florida legislators return to Tallahassee this week to work on an education budget which may include about $200 million in additional funding for public schools. That special session will begin Wednesday with an Appropriations Committee meeting at 2 p.m., and concludes Friday, June 9.

FCSA is the only state association that’s been present in the state capital this session and will continue to be there representing our member schools and bringing you the latest news about funding and critical education bills.  Our director of Governmental Affairs, Ralph Arza, will be in the state Capitol this week to encourage lawmakers to increase in per-pupil funding, and supporting the passage of HB7069.

Last week, Governor Scott vetoed the Florida Educational Finance Program (FEFP) funding portions of the budget and called a special session. This is actually good new for K-12 schools because it means that per student funding may be increased.  Stay tuned for updates from FCSA about the special session.
